Who are we?

Convergence is a regional non-profit community organization. Its mission is dedicated to supporting men and adolescents (16 years and older) in the Gaspé Peninsula, particularly men in difficulty, fathers in vulnerable situations, and spouses with inappropriate or violent behaviour.

Where does the name Convergence come from?

The name Convergence is intended to express a meeting place for men, a space for sharing and exploration with the aim of developing communication and assertiveness skills without violence. Convergence also refers to the convergence of several factors in a person's life trajectory that are conducive to the start of a positive personal process.

What are our specific objectives?

  • To intervene and prevent the specific problems that men face.
  • To offer individual follow-up programs, workshops and support groups to men with violent behaviour and to men in difficulty who are experiencing difficult events and situations that can have a negative impact on their mental health and their personal and social life.
  • To promote education by providing training programs and workshops to the public and stakeholders on topics such as: domestic and family violence, parenting, and men's health and well-being.
  • To provide support and accommodation services for men in difficulty, primarily for fathers and their children, with psychosocial and community support.

What is our approach and what are our values?

Our intervention approach is based on the core values of fairness, equality and respect in interpersonal relationships and self-empowerment in dealing with all forms of violent behaviour.

We work to promote positive models of masculinity and fatherhood.

We work in partnership with institutional and community resources in the five regional county municipalities (RCMs) in Gaspé.

We follow recent approaches in the field that address the socioeconomic, cultural and individual circumstances of the individual and their family. We are against all forms of violence, regardless of the offender's or victim's gender.

We believe in the human capacity to evolve and develop.

We promote the autonomy and self-determination of the individual.
